Lynn O’Shaughnessy reviews the way magazine contributors rank higher education institutions. "U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, Kiplinger’s, and a few others have their own special recipe to pick the winners, and ... their list results vary wildly. "For example, U.S. News just named the University of Pennsylvania and Duke the 4th and 10th best universities in America, but Forbes ranked them the 83rd and 104th best schools."The Real ‘Best Colleges’, Sep 24, 2009.

"As fresh eyes on corporate America, newcomers to the world of work sometimes have the clearest view of what’s seriously silly about how a company does business — employees who have been with an organization for awhile accept things as standard that, to the uninitiated, simply seem stupid." Now, read the same sentence again. This time, substitute the word "students" for "newecomers" and the words "schools," "teacher," "teaching," etc. for "corporate America," company," etc. Why would this idea still make as much sense about educators as it does about business?
